In the United States, the Transport Security Administration (TSA) requires access to luggage without the passenger's consent without being present. When a passenger has locked his luggage with a TSA lock, the customs officers openly open it with a universal key. Using a simple lock, you risk that customs officers will open it by force, thus damaging not only the lock, but also the suitcase itself. TSA locks are marked with a special mark (red diamond).
